Facilitating your import / export procedures with Mauritius
Port Louis, 30 July 2026 – The Government of the Republic of Mauritius and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland today signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership (ESTP), reaffirming their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Honourable Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Mauritius, and His Excellency Paul Brummell CMG, British High Commissioner to the Republic of Mauritius, on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership marks a new phase in the economic relationship between Mauritius and the United Kingdom. It provides a more comprehensive platform for advancing practical collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The Partnership aims to strengthen government-to-government cooperation, promote closer engagement between the public and private sectors, facilitate trade and investment, and support the implementation of joint initiatives that contribute to sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Mauritius and the United Kingdom will work together to promote cooperation across a number of priority sectors, including the Green and Blue Economy, Healthcare and Life Sciences, Education, and Financial, Professional Services and Digital Transformation. The Partnership also provides for regular dialogue between the two Governments and enhanced collaboration with business organisations and other stakeholders.
Both sides highlighted the importance of the Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership in further consolidating the longstanding economic relationship between Mauritius and the United Kingdom. The Partnership would create new opportunities for businesses, encourage investment, strengthen institutional cooperation and contribute to sustainable economic development in both countries.
Honourable Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, stating: "The signing of this Memorandum is not an end in itself. It marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation, where the two countries will work together to translate shared ambitions into practical initiatives that generate jobs, investment and long-term economic value for both Mauritius and the United Kingdom.
His Excellency, Paul Brummell CMG, British High Commissioner stated that “This is an important step in strengthening the UK-Mauritius partnership, grounded in openness, trust and shared prosperity. The Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership will help unlock new opportunities for businesses, support innovation, and deepen cooperation in sectors that matter such as green and blue growth, education, skills and digital trade. This is about practical collaboration that delivers sustainable, inclusive economic growth and reflects our shared commitment to an open, rules-based global economy."
The United Kingdom remains one of Mauritius' key economic partners. Bilateral trade encompasses goods, services and investment, while cooperation between the two countries continues to expand across a broad range of sectors. The Enhanced Strategic Trade Partnership is expected to further reinforce these ties and facilitate the development of mutually beneficial commercial and institutional partnerships.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ministers, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Senior Government officials and representatives of the private sector and business community from both Mauritius and the United Kingdom.
