Historical

The Sveti Stefan (St Stefan) hotel is a magnificent peninsula, joined to the mainland by a pedestrian avenue with, on either side, sand or pebble beaches. You can visit the hotel, which is more like a village, with paved streets, fragrant with pine trees and oleanders, and small houses of grey stone and red tiles.

Cultural

Montenegro has a rich cultural heritage.

 

Montenegrin literature is integrated in Serbian literature. The country's greatest poet is Petar Petrovic Njegos (1813-1857), a Montenegrin religious and political leader; a man of talent and great culture, he created original, humanist works at a cultural crossroads.

Nature

Montenegro's natural wealth is very varied: thousand-year-old forests, long beaches, clear lakes, rivers, vivid landscapes of gorges and canyons.

Two sites have been listed by UNESCO: the Bay of Kotor and the gorges of the river Tara.

Religious

Ostrog Monastery is the most visited religious site in Montenegro, and is a place of pilgrimage for the Orthodox from all over the world.

Thermal

The largest hot spring is that of Kisselevsk, near Bijectif Poljé, whose waters are widely exploited (Rada mineral water). The radioactive mud baths of Igalo can have exceptional results. Igalo also has an abundant source of mineral water, Igaljka, (20 l /s). Slightly alkaline and with definite radioactive properties, the water, whose temperature is 13.8°C, is advised for the treatment of gastric problems and, in baths, for that of ailments of the nervous system, rheumatism and venereal disease. In the Ulcinj region, there are several sulphur springs (Pinjes beach, Valdanos creek).

Beach

A quarter of the coast is lined with beaches (73 km out of 293 km of coast), sand, stones or rocks. There are 117 in the country as a whole. The finest are: Tropicana in Ulcinj; Paradiso in Bar, Mogren I, Ocaso and Sveti Toma in Budva; Plavi horizonti and  Kalardovo in Tivat; Porto, Dobrec and Cuba libre in Herceg novi.

Winter Sports

Winter sports are highly developed. The main activities are Alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and hiking with snowshoes.

Outdoor Activities

There are many outdoor activities: hiking, water sports, skiing, fishing and hunting, rafting, etc...

Shopping

The most common souvenirs are: wood engravings or sculptures and wine.

Health Precautions

Montenegro is not affected by any particular endemic disease. However, you are advised to take the usual precautions, i.e. avoid eating raw or undercooked foodstuffs and avoid contact with poultry. Tap water is potable.
