Import Permit Application
(Frozen, Fresh or Chilled MEAT)

(1) Request is made on a prescribed form available at Division of Veterinary Services
(2) Applicant to submit form at Division of Veterinary Services (Reduit)
(3) First time Importer is requested to submit the following before further consideration:- (a) Business Registration Card (b) Trade Licence from Municipality or District Council (c) Certificate of Incorporation from Registrar of Companies (d) Full address of Company/Cold/Chilled Room (e) Capacity of Cold/Chilled Room (f) Distribution facilities (Refrigerated vehicles etc). (g) Food Handlers Certificate - from Ministry of Health & Quality of Life
(4) After submission of above, Cold Room and other facilities are inspected by a Veterinary Officer as per attached norms.
(5) Only after, veterinary inspection and approval of Cold/Chilled Room, that application is processed and submitted to the Import Permit Committee for approval of importation of meat.
(6) After approval, importer is requested to effect payment.
(7) The Import Permit is finalized and issued only after confirmation that appropriate payment is effected.
Import permit fee - Rs.100.00
Per ton of meat - Rs.50.00
Clearance for Imported Frozen/Chilled Meat at Port of Entry:
a) Veterinary Officer verifies documents (Veterinary Health Certificate and Import Permit) b) Veterinary Officer issues a provisional/final landing certificate based on preliminary examination of documents. Provisional Landing Permit is issued for clearance at Customs.
c) Need Health clearance from the Ministry of Health (Regulation 26 of the Food Regulation 1999).
d) After provisional clearance at Seaport/Airport, the consignment is kept in Quarantine Cold Room.
e) Veterinary Officer is contacted to effect inspection and sampling.
f) A representative sample of the imported product(s) is sent to Food Technology Laboratory for analysis.
g) Final release is only effected after analysis of sample and that the imported product is fit for human consumption.
Importer is requested to submit the following before further consideration:-
