Import Application (Firearms)

1. Application for the Import of firearms is applicable to Mauritian citizens only.
2. Notwithstanding the Freeport Act, any person who wishes to import any firearm or ammunition into Mauritius may do so only under the authority of an import permit issued by the Commissioner.
3. Every application for an import permit shall be made –
- (a) in such form as the Commissioner may approve;
- (b) at least 15 days before the import; and
- (c) in accordance with relevant guidelines.
4. The holder of an import permit shall keep a record of every firearm and ammunition imported under that permit.
Upon approval by the Commissioner of Police, applicant will have to pay a prescribed fee of Rs 10,000 as provided under the Firearms Act 2006 for the issue of an Import Permit.
Delivery of Firearm is subject to final approval from Police Department.
Required Documents to process:
[For Individuals]
- A valid Competency Certificate issued by the Commissioner of Police;
- A passport-size photo;
- Quotation letter and a guarantee from foreign dealer in firearm for an export permit; and
- Should not hold more than one firearm at the time of the application.
[For Corporate bodies]
- A valid Competency Certificate issued to the representative of the company issued by the Commissioner of Police;
- Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate of Business Registration;
- A passport-size photo; and
-Quotation Letter and Guarantee from foreign dealer in firearm for an export permit.
[For Dealer in firearms ]
- Certificate of Registration ;
- Valid Trade Licence; and
- Quotation Letter and Guarantee from foreign dealer in firearm/manufacturer for an export permit.
